As part of taking photos with my iPhone I want to be able to attach it to a tripod or monopod to stabilize it. Great photos require a stable camera and I am always on the lookout for ways to stabilize my phone. There is no shortage of products to do this but sometimes it hard to get a clear understanding of how to use these products.
For example, the Manfrotto Klyp and Klyp+. The Klyp system is a set of cases, adapters, lenses and LED lights for improving your photography. My particular interest is the the case which is supposed to come with a standard 1/4 20 mount so that you can put your phone in the case and attach it to a tripod, monopod, or other photography rig. Manfrotto makes the Klyp for the iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, and 6 plus models. It looks like the design of the case is different for each generation of phone.
I was thinking about the case to use with my iPhone 6. I am really only interested in this case for the 1/4 20 mount. Unfortunately, the Manfrotto web site doesn’t show really clearly show you these mounts. It looks to me like there might be two different 1/4 20 mounts that you need to slide onto the case to mount it. One mount is a kickstand that slides on the case. It has can be used to prop the phone up on a table but also has a 1/4 mount. The other is an adapter that slides onto the case. Unfortunately, they don’t include any video or photos clearly showing how to use the product. They also don’t list the items in the box wit the case. Since my only reason for wanting one of these is the 1/4 20 mount, I am reluctant to buy any product that relies on a clip on or slide on mount. I can get pretty much a mount like the Glyph. The Glyph works well but I am looking for something that won’t shake loose recording moving video.
I wish that Manfrotto would have just added a little show and tell video to their website. What about you? Are you interested in the Klyp system? Already using one? Leave a reply below and share your thoughts.
