FiiO uBTR HiFi Bluetooth adapter

One of the things that really bugs me about my iPhone X is that lack of a headphone jack. I’m not going to bash on Apple about it, my Google Pixel 3 doesn’t have a headphone jack either, so I accept that this is the direction phones are headed. I still want to be able to use my wired earphones (Etymotic hf3 Earphones Plus Headset so I picked up a FiiO uBTR HiFi Bluetooth adapter.

I bought mine from Amazon for $28. You can also buy one from B&H too. I have links below.

The FiiO uBTR HiFi Bluetooth adapter is a small bluetooth amplifier and adapter for wired headphones. Plug your headphone into the 3.5 \mm jack and pair the FiiO with your phone, tablet, laptop, or other Bluetooth enabled device. I use mine with my iPhone X, Google Pixel 3, and occasionally my iPad Air. The FiiO is rectangular and about the size of a AA battery. It has a clip on the back to connect to your clothing. It has a built in microphone for calls on your phone. You can use a phone headset with the FiiO but the headset’s mic will not work, only the one on the FiiO. The FiiO uses a rechargeable battery and charges using an included USB A to USB C cable.

The FiiO supports Bluetooth 4.1 as well as the aptX, SBC, and AAC audio codecs. My understanding is that the audio is digitally decoded in the FiiO when possible to offer better sound quality. I’ve been using the FiiO for about a month now. with my Etymotics and I really like it. It sounds good and is easy to carry. I prefer it to using a headphone jack dongle for either of my phones.
