I picked up a pair of Micca RB42 bookshelf speakers from Amazon in July. They set me back $130. I’ve wanted to pick up a pair of budget speakers for a while and after seeing the reviews for these on YouTube from Steve Guttenbergm CNet’s The Audiophiliac, Zeos, Joe and Tell, and others I decided to order a pair. Apparently the reviews and the low price made these extremely popular and they were sold out for a month or more. However I managed to get my order in to Amazon for the restock. Unfortunately the are currently out of stock again.
I don’t review audio products and other than a buying a sound bar a few years ago I haven’t bought a set of speakers since the sometime in probably 20 years. However I’d like a set of speakers for my office or maybe even to replace the soundbar on my TV, as I am having problems with it.
I’m going to use these with either a vintage amp, stereo receiver, or my old A/V receiver. They are currently in the closet and I’ll have to dig them out to set up with the RB42s.
In my video, I unbox the speakers. Of note, they are rated for between 15 to 100 watts of power. The are small, heavy. and solidly built. Given the price they seem very well built. And these things are small, smaller than a roll of paper towels. One of the things I noticed is that the finish appears to be a vinyl or laminate wrap with a dark wood grain. It looks like each speaker is wrapped with a single sheet. However I noticed that one speaker has the seam on the top and the other on the bottom. I’d assume it should be in the bottom so that you would not see it when the speaker is placed on a desk, shelf, or speaker stand. I’d consider this a fit and finish issue, but for the price, no complaints.
That’s it for now. Time fo dig out that amp.
You can pick up a pair of these speakers on Amazon but at the time I am writing this they are out of stock
