6M (6ft – 6in) Lightning Male to Lightning Female Connector Extension Cables for iPhone and iPad

I like to use my iPhone for recording audio and video projects using Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter or Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. The problem I have with these adapters is that the big block of ports dangling two inches off my iPhone. No only does this get in the way but I can’t imagine that the weight of those ports along with additional cables plugged in doesn’t put additional stress on the iPhone’s lightning port.

To solve this problem, I use a 6ft Lightning port extensions cable.

I recently picked up a MATETEK 2M (6.6 ft) Extender Cable Connector Pass Audio Video Music Photo Data and Power Charge.Male to Female Extension Cable. from Amazon for $15 at the time of purchase. See the current price below.

I bought because I wanted a second cable. I haven’t started using it yet, so I can’t speak to the reliablity. I am looking for a a source of lightning extension cables that work, are reliable, and are affordable.

I’m currently using a Cable Jive dockXtender 6ft cable that I bought back in 2014. It works well, but it was $32 and now costs $40 on https://cablejive.com. At $40, I feel that is too expensive. In 2014, there were few options on Amazon. Now there are a number of unknown brands, so I’m hoping the MATETEK will work out well. Also, recently the hard plastic shell around the lightning connector on the dockXternder has split in half. The cable still works, a dab of super glue or some gaffer’s tape should fix it but I shouldn’t need it.

I’ll update this page after I had a chance to use the MATATEK cable. The Apple adapters were designed with an short two inch cable between the adapter and the lightning connector. There is no way to know the impact of introducing a 6ft extension cable in between. The docXTender worked without issue though.
