Inateck SATA to USB C 2.5″ External HDD/SSD Tool-less Enclosure

I bought an Inateck SATA to USB C 2.5″ External HDD/SSD Tool-less Enclosure. This enclosure can be used to turn an internal 2.5″ SSD drive into an external SSD driver with a USB 3.1 / USB-C connector.

You can buy the Unateck on Amazon. The price is $13. At the time, I’m writing this, there is also a 10% off coupon that you can apply to your order on the Amazon page.

The Amazon full name for this item is Inateck SATA to USB C External Hard Drive Enclosure for 9.5mm/7mm 2.5 Inch HDD/SSD case, with USB C to C Cable, UASP Supported, Tool Free,FE2005C. So many products on Amazon have these really long descriptions. I assume this companies use these really long names, so that people find them when they search on Amazon.

Over the years, I’ve accumulated a stack of internal 2.5 SSD SATA drives. I want to be able to connect them to my 16 MacBook Pro that uses USB-C ports. I have some older enclosures that use Thunderbolt or USB A connectors, but I using USB-C should provide better performance as well as a simpler connection.

The drive enclosure is made of plastic. The end flips up and you insert your 2.5 inch drive. You can connect it to the USB-C port on your Mac or PC. At $13, the Intateck works well. But I thought it was a little confusing having to figure out howe to insert and remove the drive. There are no indicators showing you how to orient the drive to line up the SATA connectors. I had to shine a light into the enclosure to figure out the correct way to insert the drive.

I also bought another another USB C 2.5″ SSD enclosure, so I’ll be comparing the performance.

I tested the drive speed of an Samsung SSD drove I had with the Inateck enclosure and the read write speeds seems to be about right for a SATA 3 dive.
